Home Inspector Examinations

General Information

The exams are closed book. No notes are allowed. You may make notes anywhere in the booklet, but only the answers on the answer sheet will be graded.

The PHI (Professional Home Inspector) certification exam contains 200 questions and has a four-hour time limit. The CHI (Certified Home Inspector) certification exam contains 100 questions and has a two-hour time limit. The only time interval that will be announced is the last ten minutes remaining in each exam.

There is only one correct answer per question. Choose the best answer. Each correct answer is worth 1/2 point (CHI 1 point). The passing score is 70. A score of 69.5 does not pass.

You will receive notification of your score immediately. Grades will be emailed to you.

If you do not pass this exam, you may register for additional exams as needed.

If you do not pass this exam, you may come in and review your exam. You will be informed of the dates of the exam review with your grade.
